Once again SotonBloggers pulled it out of the bag in getting the festivities going. We went along to see Robin Hood at the Mayflower Southampton. If you fancy lots of laughs, surprises and an Eastenders revival this is the night out for you.
Oh yes it is!
If I tried to explain the plot you’d think I’d gone completely crackers, so instead I thought I’d share some of my favourite parts of the show. The first being Alfie, I mean Shane Richie, I mean Robin Hood. Shane Richie for me made the show, with his cheeky giggles and innuendos you’ll be sure to be smirking throughout. With Jessie Wallace playing Maid Marion their natural chemistry really came through. A particular favourite moment for me was when Robin accidently fell through the curtain, the jury is still out with SotonBloggers if this was planned or really an accident.
Oh no it isn’t!
As mentioned before I won’t try to explain the plot. However, it was based loosely around Robin Hood. At one point Robin had to slay the Sheriff’s Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the most amazing 15ft (a guess) robotic dinosaur was on stage with smoke and lights.
The show comes with a 3D element, when we sat down with our 3D glasses we were unsure of what to expect. I can honestly say it was the best 3D i’ve ever seen. I saw lots of people jumping in their seats when we took a tour through the forbidden forest. It’s not for young or easily scared children, I even had to take my glasses off at one point as I’m not fond of spiders.
Merlin the magician (illusionist Phil Hitchcock) was brilliant, with his many illusions, including his disappearing doves.
It’s behind you!
I had a brilliant night out, my stomach was hurting by the end from all the laughing, (I’ve always been partial to an innuendo). It’s definitely a show for older children, and if your grandma has a racy side bring her along too! Robin Hood at the Mayflower Southampton is showing 17th Dec 2016 – 8th Jan 2016.
